Pathfinder Asset Management is an ethical New Zealand-based fund manager established in 2009, wholly owned by Alvarium Wealth New Zealand.
Pathfinder was founded by John Berry and Paul Brownsey, initially offering thematic/sector specific equity funds, before broadening out into global equities and multi-asset products. In 2019 Alvarium acquired a 51% stake in Pathfinder, buying the remaining 49% in 2021 when Berry and Brownsey assumed the roles of CEO and CIO. Alvarium New Zealand is a broadly diversified asset management business across property development, financial advice and funds management. The firm was established in 2017 by Alvarium UK co-founder Andrew Williams, along with Ben Gough and Brett Gamble who along with two other minority shareholders own 75% of the business.

Launched in 2020 and awarded Best New Ethical Fund 2021 by Mindful Money, this diversified fund is filled with different asset and company types, geographies and sectors that align with our ethical investment policy. It has a targeted allocation of 28% to income assets with the remaining 72% allocated to growth assets, including Australasian and International equities, as well as private equity. The ethical strategy includes broad sector and company exclusions, while seeking ESG thematics. Notable investments include a strong range of renewable energy companies and the Women’s Livelihood Bond, issued to advance gender equality through investing in women-owned and led enterprises.
